I'm a graduate!

I graduated on Saturday, and on Sunday I had the most surreal moment. I was watching the St. Louis Cardinals play Tampa Bay at the new Busch Stadium, my first experience there, and I thought it would be sooooooo awesome to get a job there doing public relations for the Cardinals after I finish up my Master's at Mizzou! I was plotting what I would say if I had the opportunity to speak to someone that day, and I realized that I would be able to say "I HAVE my degree from SBU in Communications." Not, "I'm a student," "I'm working on my degree," "I HAVE my degree." How awesome is that! That was probably my first "I'm a graduate" experience. The second was changing my Facebook SBU status to alum. That was a very exciting moment filled with choirs of angels and spotlights.

Also, I get married in 2 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe it! Everything about my life is so crazy right now. It has definitely been the greatest/worst week of my life. So many emotions, crisis, laughter, and love. I am pretty much constantly on the move, which means this is the end of this post because I'm off to the airport to pick up a bridesmaid. Have a wicked awesome summer!

I’m almost done!

I finished a big test on Thursday, and I only have to write a 30-page play and an 8-10 page research paper for Intercultural Communication and then FINALS WEEK!!! And after finals, GRADUATION!!!! And then, THE WORLD!!!!! Seriously though, my life here at SBU is coming to a close and fast.

While a 30-page play may seem like a lot, I’m really excited about it. I was watching the old TV series “Felicity” on DVD, and I thought it would be interesting to see something like that about a Christian university because there is a definite culture of Christian universities that sets the Christian college experience a part from a secular university experience. So I decided to try to fill this gap with a play about three girls going to a Christian university. I am so pumped. I think it will turn out really well, and who knows, maybe if you come here, you might get to see it performed sometime as a student showcase or something. Probably not but I like to dream big.

Since I’m a senior, I’m living off campus right now, which has been an awesome experience and a good decision for me. But the other day I dropped a friend off at Beasley Hall, and I looked across the parking lot at my old dorm, Leslie Hall, and caught a glimpse of my old window. I was reminded of all the good times we use to have up there in Leslie 218: watching cheesy made-for-TV movies, playing hall soccer, making cinnamon apple cider in a hot pot, decorating our mini Christmas tree. It was all good, every minute and maybe that’s just because I’m looking back on it, but living in such a tight community even just in my suite was such an awesome experience. We were a family. There was camaraderie there that I have missed since moving off campus.
